The goal of the LMSA Mentorship Program is to recruit and increase the number of disadvantaged and minority students entering medical school and allied health fields. The program accomplishes this through one-on-one mentorship of undergraduate students by medical students of all years.

The UC Irvine Summer PreMed Program is a two-week program dedicated to fostering the interest of high school students toward careers in medicine. This program combines didactic lectures given by distinguished UC Irvine faculty members and hands-on workshops to provide first-rate exposure to the medical field.

Intramural NIAID Research Opportunities (INRO)
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is excited to announce the opening of the application for the 2010 Intramural NIAID Research Opportunities (INRO) program. The INRO program is intended for medical, undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented populations who are interested in exploring career opportunities in the areas of allergy, immunology, and infectious diseases.
Applications accepted August 12 - October 16, references due October 31.
LMSA offers scholarships for high school and pre-med/pre-health students at the regional level.
Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident residing in the 50 states or Puerto Rico.
Must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

UC Irvine's "Program in Medical Education for the Latino Community" is one of the signature programs at the School of Medicine and a national model for meeting the health care needs of the growing Latino population. It's success inspired the development of PRIME programs for other underserved populations at other UC medical schools.
Office of Diversity and Community Engagement
The School of Medicine's Office of Diversity and Community Engagement (ODCE) was created within the Office of Educational Affairs to augment the recruitment and retention of medical students from populations underrepresented in medicine (UIM).
Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine at UCI
CCM at UCI is an undergraduate pre-professional health organization. Their goal is to challenge current health care practices such that they become more equitable and culturally competent. CCM also seeks to promote universal access to quality health care, especially in underserved and marginalized communities.

The American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) is committed to increasing the number of minorities in medical education. This site provides information related to minority medical student preparation, the medical education pipeline, and financial aid opportunities. AspiringDocs.org is a great resource.
Medicos Para El Pueblo (MedPEP) is a Medical Preparation and Education Pipeline program at the University of California, Los Angeles. MedPEP’s mission is to create an expanded pool of competitive URM medical school applicants from the state’s Community Colleges and California State University campuses.
When CHE was first established, its main focus was to increase the number of Latino students entering medical School. While still pursuing that goal, CHE is now a statewide student organization dedicated to supporting its members in pursuing careers in the health field, while also promoting health education through outreach projects in the Chicano/Latino community.
Los Curanderos is a pre-health organization at the University of California, Santa Barbara that is committed to providing support, information, and pre-professional opportunities to minority students and those interested in providing health care to underserved communities.

Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine at Cal State LA
CCM at CSULA continues its goals to improve the quality of healthcare to underserved communities as well as increase the diversity of students at health professional schools. Members serve the community by putting together regular health fairs in Tijuana, Mexico and East Los Angeles. Through workshops and other events they continue to promote diversity in health through community service and education.
Center of Excellence in Diversity in Medical Education at Stanford
The COE provides a point of access to opportunities, programs, and activities that will help guide students in their preparation for a career in a health profession. The Stanford University Minority Medical Alliance (SUMMA) is a coalition of African-American, Latino, and Native American medical student organizations committed to recruiting minority and disadvantaged students to careers in medicine and holds an annual conference in the winter quarter. For premedical students, advising is offered in a variety of formats including individual, group, and workshops.
