FALL (MSI) ELECTIONS
OPEN TO 1st YEAR MEDICAL STUDENTS ONLY:
LMSA 1st Year Co-Chair (1): The 1st Year Co-Chair will work closely with the current Co-Chairs to gain experience about the day-to-day operations of the organization. They will represent the 1st year class at board meetings and help to develop future events and projects that will interest their classmates. The position also provides opportunities to get involved at the Regional level. The 1st Year Co-Chair will develop the skills and knowledge base to serve as one of the Co-Chairs during their second year. However, it is neither required nor assumed that the 1st Year Co-Chair will take the position of Co-Chair in subsequent years.
Specific Responsibilities:
- ~Assist the entire board with and attend the annual Pre-Health Conference.
- ~Plan and coordinate the Student-Run Free Clinic Toy Drive.
- ~Attend the Regional Conference and Meeting.
- ~Plan and facilitate one (1) LMSA General Meeting.
LMSA 1st Year Mentorship Co-Chair (1-2): The 1st Year Mentorship Co-Chair(s) will work closely with the current Mentorship Co-Chairs to gain experience about the day-to-day operations of the LMSA Mentorship Program. They will represent the 1st year class at board meetings and help to develop future events and projects that will interest their classmates. The 1st Year Mentorship Co-Chair(s) will develop the skills and knowledge base to serve as one of the Mentorship Co-Chairs after their first year. However, it is neither required nor assumed that the 1st Year Mentorship Co-Chair will take the position of Mentorship Co-Chair in subsequent years.
Specific Responsibilities:
- ~Assist the entire board with and attend the annual Pre-Health Conference.
- ~Assist in the planning of events for the LMSA Mentorship Program.
- ~Act as a liaison for the undergraduate organizations at UCI.
LMSA Outreach Coordinator (1-2): The Outreach Coordinator will work to identify and address gaps in LMSA outreach. They will coordinate the various outreach efforts of the Co-Chairs, Undergraduate Representative, Post-Bac Admissions Liaison, and Community Affairs Liaison in an attempt to reach the entire student pipeline—ideally from kindergarten through college. They will also work closely with the Outreach Coordinator in the UCI-SOM Office of Admissions & Outreach to help recruit applicants and follow-up with interviewees and accepted students.
LMSA Medical Student Representatives (MSRs) (0-2): The MSRs will represent the UCI chapter at quarterly LMSA Regional Board Meetings. At these meetings, the MSRs will vote on issues presented on behalf of the UCI chapter. They will work with the Undergraduate Representative to coordinate communication with undergraduate pre-medical organizations. The MSRs will be responsible for communicating all information disseminated at the Regional Meetings with the UCI chapter. Travel expenses will be paid through regional funds and/or by our chapter. This position will provide the necessary regional experience required to run for an LMSA Regional Board position after the first year. The MSR position is a two-year commitment unless the MSR becomes a Regional Board member in their second year. Therefore, the number of positions available during each election cycle will vary.
Specific Responsibilities:
- ~Attend all LMSA Board Meetings: MSRs must attend all four (4) Regional Board Meetings. If MSRs are unable to attend, another chapter representative (i.e. Co-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, etc.) must attend.
- ~Submit a UCI chapter activities report prior to each Regional Meeting. Reports should include the following about past, current, and upcoming events: date(s), a 2-3 sentence description, and outcomes (or proposed outcomes).
- ~Assist the entire board with planning the UCI Annual Pre-Health Conference.
- ~Attend Regional Conference(s) and Meetings.
- ~Attend LMSA Leadership Conference(s).
- ~Act as a liaison to the undergraduate organizations at UCI including, but not limited to, CCM (maintain copies of meeting reports and coordinate activities).
OPEN TO MEDICAL STUDENTS, POST-BACS, AND UNDERGRADUATES:
LMSA Newsletter Editor & Historian (1-2): The Newsletter Editor & Historian will coordinate with all members to document and archive LMSA events through photos (or other media) and produce a quarterly chapter newsletter (Fall, Winter & Spring). The role of the Newsletter Editor is to solicit, compile, and format article submissions from members of the LMSA community for publication in a digital newsletter each quarter. Pending final approval from the Board, the newsletter will be posted online and may be sent to a variety of contacts via email and/or print. The role of the Historian is to document chapter events by taking and/or collecting photos (or other media) to share and archive online. This position may be filled by one person taking on both roles, or by two people sharing the roles as they see fit.
LMSA Webmaster (1): The Webmaster shall produce and maintain a LMSA at UCI chapter website and calendar. The website and calendar should be evaluated and assessed at the beginning of the year, and monitored and updated continuously, to best fit the needs of the membership and community. The Webmaster will solicit and organize information for website use. They will ensure that the content of the website is consistent with the chapter’s values and goals. With assistance from the Board, the Webmaster will help establish financial means to further maintain the website.
LMSA Undergraduate Representative (UGR) (1-2): The UGR(s) will work with the MSRs to disseminate LMSA information to appropriate undergraduate organizations. They will also help coordinate outreach activities with the LMSA Mentorship Committee. The UGR(s) will collect articles for an “LMSA Bulletin” and distribute it among undergraduate pre-health organizations. They will inform the Board about future pre-health organization events (conferences, seminars, etc.).
LMSA Community Affairs Liaison (1-2): The community affairs liaison will create and maintain contacts with various community resources. They will help to develop and present new opportunities for LMSA outreach, service, and support.
